Gimmal is excited about the Microsoft and SAP cloud partnership

As we round out the year here at Gimmal, one thing comes to mind: our ongoing commitment to the Cloud.

Microsoft recently announced that it would further its partnership with SAP, including enabling SAP cloud applications - more specifically SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud - on Microsoft Azure.

“As technology transforms every business and every industry, organizations are looking for the right platforms and trusted partners to help accelerate their digital transformation,” said Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft. “Building on our longtime partnership, Microsoft and SAP are harnessing each other’s products to not only power our own organizations, but to empower our enterprise customers to run their most mission-critical applications and workloads with SAP S/4HANA on Azure.”

Microsoft is migrating from its legacy SAP financial systems and will implement S/4HANA Finance on Azure, as well as Azure AI and analytics services. These activities imply that both companies will cross-promote each other’s products internally, while encouraging joint customers to run SAP software on Microsoft Azure.

The reasoning behind this deepened relationship is simple: Microsoft wants to increase its share of the cloud competing market. Right now, Amazon Web Services (AWS) captures 44% of the $22.1 billion infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) market, while Microsoft comes in second with 7.1%.

Despite being in second place, Microsoft hasn’t become complacent. Microsoft has more data center regions globally than Amazon. Microsoft has 36 cloud regions with six more planned, while Amazon has 16 cloud regions. Additionally, Microsoft is increasingly landing $100 million cloud contracts that are “head to head” wins against Amazon Web Services.

On the Gimmal front, we are excited for this partnership, as we are trusted partners of both Microsoft and SAP. Our goal is to make business functions more accessible, efficient and simpler for our customers. In the upcoming year, Gimmal will be hard at work in developing a SaaS-based approach to our SAP solution, Workplace for SAP. Gimmal is also a co-sell ready partner in Microsoft’s One Commercial Partner catalog for Azure and Office 365 solutions.

Gimmal at ARMA International InfoCon 2019

Once a year, members in the records management community come together for ARMA’s annual conference to discuss the latest advancements and best practices for modern information managers.  ARMA, the global authority of information management and governance, hosted this year’s conference, ARMA InfoCon, in Nashville, TN. While attendees were not in the typical “record” industry that Nashville is known for, the location called for a great mix of music and information management knowledge.
