2 minute read

Information Governance, SharePoint or SharePoint Online go together, as Forrest Gump would say, like peas and carrots. RecordLion President Chris Caplinger recently did a session at SharePoint Saturday St. Louis on 10 things you'll need to succeed with Information Governance & SharePoint using the Information Governance Maturity Model from ARMA as his guide,

Get Everyone Involved

Governing your data should start with all parties, including departmental, executive, IT and legal being on board with your initiative and end with identifiable, discoverable and manageable data. In order to do that you'll need to explain, to each, the importance of Information Governance and how it relates and help meet their goals. The 10 things discussed in this presentation can be directly related to the maturity model and to the parties that need to be on board in order to be successful. In summary these are:

  1. Access Control
  2. Taxonomy Plan
  3. Retention Schedule
  4. Content On-boarding
  5. Classification
  6. Email Management
  7. Unstructured Content Search
  8. Disposition
  9. Audit, Reporting and BI
  10. Legal Holds and eDiscovery

Each of these are detailed in the presentation on how they need to be considered in a SharePoint or Office 365 environment.
