Last night at Café Adobe in Houston, the American Diabetes Association Houston’s TourdeCure event planners held an appreciation dinner honoring top fundraisers, champions, red riders, and volunteers. Gimmal, along with our co-sponsors KPMG Houston, was recognized as a top fundraiser! This was a really great event and a first class bike ride for riders of any skill. Donations are still open, and they’ve got a ways to go, so please donate now!
According to a 2017 report of 2015 data from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), 9.4% of the adult population of the United States, or roughly 30.3 million people, suffer from diabetes, with 23.8% of the affected undiagnosed. A further 84.1 million adults, just over a third of the U.S. population, are pre-diabetic. Diabetes is a serious health risk that affects us all, if not directly than indirectly through its impact upon our families, friends, and communities. Awareness and proactive prevention are key to our ability to control and limit the development of this condition.
The TourdeCure was held Saturday, Nov. 4 at Prairie View A&M. With 81 riding teams, over 1,000 riders, and over a half-million dollars raised so far, the Houston TourdeCure provides tremendous support for the American Diabetes Association. The KPMG Houston-Gimmal team has already exceeded our contribution goal, but donations are still open and greatly appreciated. We want to help the American Diabetes Association reach their total goal of one million dollars, and anything you can give will be appreciated!
Gimmal had a number of riders as well as red-riders, who are those affected by diabetes. A special thanks to Charlie Cole, who was our team captain and also a sub-committee chair of the event. A shout out to Beth Murphy, executive committee co-chair and KPMG team captain for generously allowing Gimmal to work with KPMG on this event. And a shout out to former Gimmal Ritch Tolbert, Team Captain of Noble Energy, another VIP team that was recognized as a top contributor!
